Tony (José Antonio) Rey García was born in Havana City (Cuba) in 1966.  At 11 he started to learn Ju-Jutsu (Rou Shu Dao, 柔術道 – The Path of the Flexible Techniques) under the guidance of Master Raúl Pozo, direct disciple of the Japanese Master and 5th dan, Segitoshi Morita. In 1981 he met Master Ramón Blanco, who introduced him to an ancient branch of the southern Chinese Hong Quan style. In 1988, while teaching Ju-Jutsu at “Ciro Frías” Sports Center” in Arroyo Naranjo Municipality, he is invited to deliver a course of  Taiji Quan (太極拳 – Taiji Boxing) at Gu Ba Zhong Hua Zong Hui Guan Chinese Casino (古巴中華總會館), along with instructors Ernesto González and Antonio Cordero.

In 1993 he focused on the training of the Waigong Yi Jin Jing (外功易筋經 - External exercises of muscle and tendon transformation, the Ba Duan Jin (八段錦 – The brocade of the eight sections), the Hua Tuo Wu Qin Xi (華佗五禽戏 – The sport of the five animals) and on other methods of traditional Qigong, taught to him by Dr. Liu Zheng Cai, Vice-president of the Examining Committee of China, investigator at the Institute of the Seniors in the province of Sichuan and Associate University Professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences of Beijing. Dr. Liu was invited to deliver courses and lectures in Havana City on the medical theory of the Qigong and on the methods of mantainance and preservation of health.

In 1994 he starts the teaching of periodical lessons of the Hong Quan style  in a facility on Zanja Street owned by the Zhong Guo Hong Men Min Zhi Dang Society  (中國洪門民治黨)  of China Town in Havana, while attending courses of Chinese Language, Phylosophy and  Bei Pai Wushu (北派武術 - Wushu of the north trends) delivered by Professor Salim Handatjaia.

Master Wong prepared a group of twelve instructors for the development in Cuba of traditional Chinese southern boxing styles. After a long period of training he had introduced more than twenty classical sequences along with their martial applications, among which there are the Cai Li Fo (蔡李佛 - Boxing that combines techniques from Masters Li Yau San and Chan Yuen Woo with those of Monk Choy Fook, known in Occident as Choy Lee Fut, 蔡李佛), Bagua Hong Quan (八卦洪拳 – Boxing of the Eight Directions of the Hong Fist), Tai Zi Jian Quan (太子剑拳 –  Boxing of the Prince’s Sword), Wu Xing Quan (五形拳 – Boxing of the Five Animals), Wu Hu Xun Shan Quan (五虎巡山拳 – Boxing of the Five Tigers that Guard the Montain), Shi Ba Luo Han Quan (十八羅漢拳 – Boxing of the Eighteen Luohan) and a great variety of sequences with weapons such as:  Hong Jia San Gu Cha (洪家三股叉 - Hong Quan Style Trident), Hong Jia Zhi Chang Dang Tou Kun (洪家之長單頭琨 - Hong Quan Single Head Long Staff), Wu Long Nao Hai Dao (烏龍鬧海刀 – Sword of the Five Dragons that Whirl in the Sea), Hu Die Dao (蝴蝶刀 – Butterfly Daggers), Nan Qiang (南枪 – Southern Spear), while also an advising in Qin Na (擒拿 – Capture Techniques) and in the ancient form of Yang family Taiji Quan.

   Shifu Tony was elected in 1996 to hold the role of Vice-president of the Cuban Association of Wushu, which was founded by professor Roberto Vargas Lee, a graduate from the Beijing Institute of Physical Culture, and at the same time he leads the technical direction of the Wong Yi Man Zhong Guo Nan Pai Wushu Zong Guan school (黄宇文中国南派武术總館 – Wong Yi Man's Academy of Southern Chinese Martial Arts), where he holds the degree of Qi Ji Wu Shi (柒級武士 – Seventh Level of Wushu), directly awarded by Master Wong Yi Man. He also delivers courses of Taiji Quan at the National School of Arts (ENA in Spanish), the International Center of Artistic Teaching and introduces traditional Wushu in the Eastern province of Guantánamo where he is still an advisor on an annual basis. 

C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\antonio\Desktop\Archivo Central\Fotos para el cuadro de Wong Yi Man\CIMG4042.JPG In 1997 he was initiated in the practice of the Chen Shi Taiji Quan (陳氏太極拳 – The ancient form of the Chen Taiji Quan Style), introduced in Cuba by Dr. He Xiang Wu, head of the Department of Acupuncture and Tui Na at the Military General Hospital in the province of Henan, who also gave instructions about some of the fundamental methods in the development of Taiji Quan such as: Taiji Dantian Gong (太極丹田功 – Work to mobilize Qi in the Dantian), Taiji Can Si Jin Gong (太極蠶丝劲功 – Work to unfold Qi of the silkworm), Taiji Xiao Zhou Tian Gong (太極小周天功 – Work of the minor celestial circulation), Taiji Da Zhou Tian Gong (太極大周天功 - Work of the major celestial circulation) and Shaolin Neigong Yi Jin Jing (少林內功易筋經 – Internal methods of transformation of muscles and tendons from Shaolin).

  In 1998 he taught courses of Qigong and Taiji Quan applied to non-contagious cronic diseases and as a general profillactic method in the Cuban Academy of Sciences' Laboratory of Psychossocial Health Studies. He was also invited by the Cuban Federation of Karate Do and similar martial arts to participate in several Chinese martial art events and exhibitions, where he obtained different acknowledgements.

  In 2001 he recontacts Master Wong Yi Man in China, there he is given personal instructions on the ancient trend of Wu Xing Quan (五形拳- Boxing of the Five Animals) and Yang style Taiji.

  In 2003 he is trained in Hong Jia Quan technique (洪家拳 - Boxing of the Hong Family) and Hu Jia Quan (虎家拳 - Boxing of the Tiger Family), together with some methods of weapons and exercising in pairs.

  In 2004 he was given instructions at Shaolin Temple by the Monk and Master of Generation 31, Shi De Chao (释德潮), disciple of Reverend Shi Suxi (释素喜), Sir Monk of Generation 30 who passed away in 2002. Being introduced in some of the systems of budist Qigong, he was trained in the techniques of Da Hong Quan (大洪拳 - Great Hong Family Boxing).

  In 2006 he taught classes in southern China and participated in the demonstrations given by the Shang Tang of Taishan School during the traditional celebrations of the Dance of the Lion. In this opportunity he was once again taught by Master Wong Yi Man, who had returned from the U.S. after founding the schools of Boston and New York, as well as Masters Huang Cong Rong (黄聪荣), Huang Zhou Guan (黃卓光), Huang Tian Wu (黄天武) and Huang De Qiang (黄德强), who contributed to the widening of his knowledge on traditional sequences with weapons and Dui Da (对答) techniques.

  In 2007 Master Wong Yi Man directly hands him in the official naming through which he is awarded the degree of Jiaolian as well as the rank of President of the Nan Pai Kung Fu Academy in Cuba. The chair of President allows him to direct all schools from Master Wong Yi Man's system as well as to provide levels with his own stamp and signature. In this same year he is trained in southern China in the traditional boxings of the Choy Lee Fu Quan (蔡李佛拳), taught in Master Huang Yu Wen's branch.

  In 2008 he taught classes and acted as technical advisor at Wong Yi Man Nan Pai Wushu Academy in the province of Guangzhou, district of Taishan. There he was given directly from the hands of Master Wong Yi Man the International Title through which he is acknowledged as Vicepresident of the Wong Yi Man Academy in China and the rest of the world.   

  In the same year he travelled to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he delivered seminars, lectures and courses of Taijiquan, Taijijian, Nan Pai Wushu and methods of traditional Qigong and offered training of Shuai Jiao and Qin Na for the Brazilian National League instructors. After a successful stay in that country he inaugurated the Ba Xi Wong Yi Man Nan Pai Wushu Zong Guan Academy (巴西黄宇文中国南派武术總館 - Brazil Wong Yi Man Academy of Southern Chinese martial arts) with headquarters in the City of Sao Paulo, Brazil. In this opportunity he was awarded the honor title delivered by Master Leandro Keck Gemeo and Dr. Antonio Gemeo Neto, President of the Brazilian Confederation of Pankration Athlima, as an acknowledgement.

  In November, 2008 he participated in the VI International Kungfu Cup held in Sao Paulo, Brazil where he made demonstrations and was awarded an honor plaque as guest master.

  In July 2009 he returned to Sao Paulo to participate in the I International Congress of Martial Arts and Chinese Medicine. At the time he delivered seminars, courses and lectures on different Chinese martial arts topics. Two of his students contested in the Wushu National Championship held on August 16 and obtained gold and silver medals respectively.

He has delivered Wushu, Qigong and Taijiquan seminars in Frankfurt (Germany), Vienna (Austria), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Cuba and Guangzhou (China). He travels periodically to southern China to broaden his knowledge with Master Wong Yi Man. He also receives instruction from Masters Huang Zhong Shao (黃鐘韶) and Liu Zhou Ren (劉周仁), in Taiji Quan, southern animal boxing, and combat strategies both barehanded and with weapons.

  With over twenty-nine years of experience in martial arts, his knowledge has travelled worldwide.

  Nowadays he lives in Austria where he is a trainer, an actor and choreographer of the Odeon Theater in Vienna.
